Meet Philippa

Being part of a new generation of classical music teachers that aspires to make learning fun and appealing to the modern student, Philippa decided at a younger age she would love to mentor others and help empower students to feel confident on their musical journey.

Originally from Brisbane, Philippa completed her master’s degree at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, specialising in the art of teaching private piano (Keyboard Pedagogy). She understood that it is one thing to be a good performer, but it requires another skillset to teach and deliver an effective pedagogy. Teaching being her true passion, upon graduating, and receiving a Griffith Award for Academic Excellence, she relocated to Sydney to share her knowledge and establish herself in the music education community here.

Prior to coming to Sydney, Philippa achieved a Diploma of ‘Associate in Music’ (AMusA) for Piano Performance, under the tutelage of Esther Lee, with the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Griffith University which has helped shape her creative thinking and excellent communication skills.

Philippa takes pride in each and every working relationship she has. For her students, she is not just a teacher. She is also a mentor and a friend who makes each lesson enjoyable and collaborative.

With over 13 years of teaching experience both in schools and privately, Philippa has a high level of personal musicianship and a strong passion for teaching and would love to bring this knowledge, patience, and dedication to students of all ages.

Testimonials

"Philippa is a very talented and inspiring teacher!! She not only plays the piano beautifully and has vast theoretical and practical music knowledge, but she also knows how to teach.  Which for me is key. She is patient, knows how to get me to learn how to learn and practice the skills I need, is great at seeing and fixing technical aspects of playing, helps me “see” and feel the music, and is very encouraging. (She has even persuaded me to perform on stage with her.) For me, she is simply the best!"
